What you take away

• Raw payload is the floor: multiply by replication, add indexes and overhead, then multiply by retention.
• Two time anchors do the work: a day is ~100,000 seconds and a year is ~30 million.
• Bandwidth is bytes per second × 8, and egress usually dwarfs ingress in a read-heavy system.
• Egress is also the expensive direction on a cloud bill, so the estimate is a cost estimate too.
